He explodes into a burst of violence and kills six armed men in the blink of an eye. Later, the local people are shocked when he tells them he 'remembered' procedures for unarmed combat. How could someone with practically no IQ at all remember such a thing?Matters escalate quickly when 20 more men come looking for whomever killed their six comrades. They aren't really bandits, it turns out, but disguised soldiers from an enemy country. To protect Jesika, Toby suddenly 'remembers' how to use low-tech weapons and instantly kills all 20 men with a gun taken from the first group of six. It's quite clear that Jesika's protector is not an ordinary human, and every time he remembers something, he becomes more intelligent. He is no longer a simpleton.The peaceful villagers are stunned and fearful. They contact the man who had consigned Toby to be delivered to the village earlier, is a prominent scientist from the capitol city, Master Sage Lian Huen. He tells them he had just wanted Toby to be in a safe place away from all conflict and violence. Until now, this village in the poverty-stricken fringe of the world had been exactly that type of place. People learn from Minge that Toby had been known as Mikal the Guardian several decades ago and had served as the bodyguard of Serena, the young daughter of an important politician of that time – a little girl who had looked then very much like Jesika does now. And even though Serena is now an older woman, Toby/Mikal/Guardian still looks exactly the same as he did when she was a child. He announces that he has chosen to become Jesika's bodyguard and will protect her by any means necessary. To avoid confusion caused by his multiple names, Jesika decides to call her protector Angel – HER angel.The men who he had killed earlier were scouts for an enemy invasion force. Jesika's homeland will soon be caught in the crossfire of two battling armies. What can Angel do to save Jesika from this danger? No one, not even the Master Sage, knows either the story of his creation or the exact nature of what he is – and especially they don’t understand what is about to be unleashed to protect one small child.
